About Sri lanka

In Sanskrit, the name Sri Lanka means “Venerable Island". The name comes from the words “Sri” means venerable, and “Lanka” which means island. The island is surrounded by Indian Ocean. There are close to 19 million people in Sri Lanka.The ancient kings in Sri Lanka have left behind some of most amazing sites, forts and relics, which today are considered Treasures and even declared as world heritage sites.

Sri Lanka has had a continuous record of human settlement for more than two millennia. The island’s two major ethnic groups, the Sinhalese and Tamils. The first entries in the Mahavamsa or great history date back to 543BC which coincides with the arrival of prince Wijaya in Sri Lanka.
